We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types (including residential treatment centres, community-based support programs, counselling and withdrawal management services). The St Kilda 24/7 Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services to provide a free, confidential and anonymous service providing safe injecting equipment and safe sex products such as needles, syringes, swabs, condoms and disposal containers.

The program provides drug, health and other related information and referral. Educational material on blood borne viruses and sexually transmitted infections are also available.

The Needle and Syringe Program is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

THE ROLE

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Casual NSP Worker to provide anonymous, confidential and free distribution of clean injecting equipment and safe-sex products and to provide a range of information and referrals.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake harm reduction focussed health promotion and project work in addition to daily NSP activities
  • Injecting equipment and safe-sex products are distributed promptly, without judgement, and in a manner that encourages clients to return when they are next in need of products
  • Accurate information about drugs, reducing harm, injecting related injuries and diseases and sexually transmitted infections is provided
  • Accurate information provided about, and referrals made to, relevant health, housing, legal, family violence, welfare and community services

HOURS AND SALARY

This is a casual position.

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010, level 4.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in the specific or a related field is essential.
  • Current knowledge, skills and previous experience is essential
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
