Why this role matters

The Geelong Withdrawal Unit provides a residential medicated withdrawal service for those who are seeking to recover from alcohol and other drugs issues. Clients reside in the Unit during their episode of care and are provided with all meals and facilities. Clients can remain in the programme for a further 21 days (Stage 2) post their medicated withdrawal (Stage 1) to stabilise and plan for their recovery post-discharge. The 12-bed Withdrawal Unit is in Corio. Nursing staff are employed to cover the 24-hour period with clinical supervision provided by the Nursing Coordinator and Visiting Medical Officer (GP).

The role you could play

Come and be part of our professional and hard working team! Our Registered Nurses provide nursing support and care for clients seeking to recover from alcohol and other drug issues.

Duties

  • Ensure clients are fully aware of their treatment plan and inducted into the programme
  • Provide clients with their withdrawal medication in a respectful fashion and in accordance with their medication chart
  • Ensure clients are actively encouraged to participate in the programme
  • Listen to clients and be involved in their recovery
  • Monitor activities and clearly communicate at handover meetings
  • Be professional, respectful and collaborative relationship is maintained with AOD Support staff

We currently have permanent part time vacancies. EFT shifts are negotiable however ideally, we are seeking to fill a 0.8, 0.5 and 0.6 EFT.

The following shifts are available to be filled:

  • 10.30am-6.00pm (one day a week)
  • Thursday mornings
  • Every second Wednesday morning
  • Every second Saturday and Sunday evening

The ideal candidate will have

  • Degree or equivalent in Nursing and a current Div 1 certificate
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C AND 10A
  • Clinical nursing and assessment skills and an understanding of professional nursing issues
  • Practical experience in AOD sector service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviour and drugs, both illicit and licit
