Are you passionate about supporting your community?

We are seeking a dedicated AOD Peer worker! You will work within the Salvation Army Alcohol and Other Drugs Program team to provide appropriate and effective support of program participants. In this role you will be required to co-facilitate residential program groups and provide direction and support to clients accessing The Eastern Bridge Program. The purpose of this role is to provide support and encouragement to clients from a lived/living experience perspective

Duties

  • Be present at The Eastern Bridge Program from times to be determined on rostered days
  • Provide a lived/living experience perspective when co-facilitating residential program groups/activities
  • Use purposeful disclosure to provide insights and key points that are relevant to the group subject matter
  • Provide support to clients during the admission process
  • One-on-one work with clients in conjunction with their AOD Practitioner
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Be aware of any pre-existing relationships with current clients and ensure that this does not impact service delivery
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff at all times
  • Act as a mentor to clients by sharing common experiences, helping them to set appropriate goals, and providing relevant knowledge and information
  • Identify referral opportunities to assist clients in accessing appropriate support services and establishing community support
  • Refer all clinical needs to AOD Practitioners to action

This is a maximum-term (12-month) part-time (15 hours per week) position based in The Basin, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Award - Social and Community Services Employee, Level 2

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience in supporting people who are struggling with substance use, including previous volunteer work. Experience in or willingness to learn skills in co-facilitation of groups
  • Evidence of completion of Peer Training through SHARC
  • Evidence of completion of AOD Skill Set or willingness to enrol
  • Knowledge of AOD sector, knowledge of the issues and challenges clients experience and a clear understanding of harm minimization approaches
  • Lived or living experience of addiction and accessing treatment services. An understanding of what contributes to recovery from a lived experience perspective
  • Knowledge around trauma informed practice
  • A clear understanding of the peer role and the differences between the work of clinicians and the work of Peers
  • Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
  • A national police record check is required
  • Valid driver's license (desirable)
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
  • Vaccinations (if required)
