The Role

The Senior Policy Adviser (Climate/ ESG) will join a passionate and dedicated team to provide expertise on corporate climate and ESG leadership with responsibility for developing and driving public policy positions related to corporate governance regulation, and better ESG practices in the director community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working as part of the Policy team and multi-disciplinary Governance and Policy Leadership team, lead policy development, act as the subject-matter expert and contribute to advocacy campaigns.
  • Support the role of the Climate Governance Initiative, a multi partner collaboration which the AICD hosts in Australia..
  • Drive analysis, advice and submissions on policy options and recommendations for reform.
  • Engage and collaborate with senior directors, subject-matter experts and stakeholders to deliver practice projects and thought-leadership aimed at lifting ESG practices in Australian boardrooms.
  • Represent the organisation at external meetings, roundtables, public hearings, conferences and seminars to advance the AICD’s policy positions and achieve campaign goals.
  • Maintain and develop deep stakeholder networks relevant to governance practice and regulation.
  • Active contributor to AICD content across multiple channels including providing thought leadership on emerging issues.
  • Identify, scope and deliver evolving governance practice projects including research, reports and guidance.
  • Undertake analysis and research on governance practice issues and debates.

Required experience

You will have experience working with or for the corporate sector on climate and/or broader sustainability strategy, policy or reporting and will have strong stakeholder management and communications skills.

Additionally, you will have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a relevant corporate, public policy or advisory role.
  • Excellent understanding of climate and ESG policy, frameworks and climate transition strategies.
  • Highly developed written skills including drafting, report writing and presentations.
  • Governance practice experience with relevant corporate, government, investor or governance body.
  • Extensive engagement with and/or advice to boards and directors on corporate governance matters
  • Ideally, postgraduate qualifications in an ESG related field.
