Position Context

Sydney Metropolitan Institute of Technology (Sydney Met) is a registered private higher education institute with a vision for socially equitable and culturally responsive education. The Department of Information Technology and Engineering at Sydney Met is expanding. The Department currently delivers the undergraduate Bachelor of Information Technology and is seeking accreditation for a Master of Information Technology, Graduate Diploma of IT and Graduate Certificate in IT.

We seek senior academics to join the Department of Information Technology and Engineering with values consistent with the Sydney Met ethos and a demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and learning to provide leadership in the Department and the broader college. Key Accountabilities

The Associate Professor/Professor in Information Technology is responsible for:

  • Contributing to departmental teaching in areas of expertise.
  • Undertake research and scholarship in areas of interest.
  • Engaging with initiatives to support continuous improvement of teaching, learning, assessment, and student experience for the department, aligned with Sydney Met’s vision and policy.
  • Supporting and maintaining partnerships with industry relevant to business education.
  • Maintaining and improving curriculum to ensure positive student outcomes and student experience.
  • Contributing to a positive culture within the department aligned with Sydney Met values, including promoting respect, inclusion, and teamwork when engaging with staff across the College.
  • Implementing strategies from the Sydney Met Strategic Plan, Teaching and Learning Plan and generative Artificial Intelligence Action Plan at the departmental level as required.
  • Engaging in scholarly activity and research.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching, scholarship, and/or research within and outside the College as required.
  • Contributing to broader College initiatives, including through leadership of committees and working groups.

Other Duties (as required):

  • Contribute to Academic Board sub-committees.
  • Attend College events/forums.
  • Contribute to College marketing, recruitment, and community engagement.
  • Observe principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity.
  • Comply with Work, Health and Safety responsibilities, accountabilities, and authorities at Sydney Met.
  • Work within Sydney Met’s governance framework.

Qualifications:

  • Completed PhD in an area relevant to Information Technology.

Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications as noted above.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise and understanding of contemporary teaching and learning practices for working with diverse student cohorts.
  • Demonstrated track record of research in an area relevant to Information Technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional networks
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • High-level spoken and written communication skills for working with teams and organisations, including skills for building strong, effective professional relationships.
