The Institute for Sustainable Futures is recruiting for a highly talented and experienced researcher for a Research Principal role, to work on innovative research projects in the field of climate adaptation. ISF is a partner in the NSW Adaptation Research Hub through leadership of the Adaptive Communities Node in collaboration with CSIRO and the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

The Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at UTS undertakes game-changing sustainability research.  Established for more than 15 years, ISF works with thought leaders in government, industry and community organisations, in Australia and internationally, to create change towards sustainable futures.  Sustainability research is also a key pillar supporting UTS’s ambition to be a world-leading university of technology.  Beyond a vibrant new campus in Sydney’s creative precinct, at the heart of UTS are exceptional people.

We are seeking applications from skilled and experienced candidates for a Research Principal role, to work on challenging projects in the field of climate change adaptation, from inception through to implementation. Research could encompass qualitative or quantitative aspects of the broad range of activities undertaken by communities, businesses and governments to adapt to the current and future impacts of a changing climate. Research projects may involve working in either urban or rural-regional contexts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribution to the development of a dynamic and critical research community based on peer learning and reflective practice
  • Contribution to the design and completion of high quality, innovative research projects by working in project teams
  • Identifying  and  pursuing  opportunities  for  new  work  and  preparation  of  funding  proposals consistent with ISF objectives and strategic planning

Outline of the main skills / experience required:

  • A track record in an area of sustainability, preferably within New South Wales
  • Proven ability to develop new business and funding opportunities
  • Experience in managing interdisciplinary research projects
  • Considerable experience in managing project teams from planning and delegation of work and managing budgets to the supervision of staff and students
  • A relevant degree (essential)
  • Postgraduate qualifications related to aspects of climate adaptation (desirable)

Remuneration

Salary Range: $95,559 to $109,348 pa (Level B).

The university offers 17% employer provided superannuation. This appointment will be on a 2-year fixed term full-time basis.
