SurfAid’s mission is to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. Our geographical focus is the Indo Pacific region with development programs operating in Indonesia and Solomon Islands.
We work with each individual community and local partner organisations on issues that matter to them. We believe, and our results show, that working with communities to develop their own solutions is the most effective form of development — a hand up, not a hand out approach.
Our work is funded from a variety of sources including governments, private donor grants and individual giving through events and campaigns. SurfAid is a small, agile international development organisation that is in a period of growth, increasing its funding, its impact and team.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior management team, working alongside and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
The Finance team is small, and the CFO is responsible for headquarter finance functions of SurfAid Australia and SurfAid New Zealand. The role is supported by a part time Program Finance Accountant who is the lead on program finance.
Note: SurfAid’s current CFO is stepping back from this role to transition into a new part time Program Finance Accountant role. The new CFO will have the benefit of working alongside the current CFO for a smooth transition.

The role is a full-time permanent position.
The SurfAid Australia office is in Alexandria, Sydney. This role would ideally work from the office one day a week and the remainder from home.
SurfAid is committed to preventing all unwanted behaviour at work. This includes sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse, and child abuse. We expect everyone who works for us to share this commitment by understanding and working within the SurfAid Safeguarding Policies.
All offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references and appropriate screening, which can include working with children, criminal record and terrorism finance checks.
