About Us

Stretch-A-Family (SAF) is an accredited not-for-profit agency that has been caring for children and young people in Sydney since 1977. We are a trauma informed agency that provides therapeutic care - Foster Care and Residential Care for 0 - 18 year olds. We have three residential programs and a foster care program all based in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

About the Role

SAF are seeking Therapeutic Support Workers for our residential care programs in the Inner West. We currently have Casual employment options.

You will have a minimum qualification of Certificate IV and have a passion for providing direct care and support to children and young people in out of home care residential programs and foster care placements.

You are responsible for a wide range of child care practices and professional duties and must demonstrate personal competence in promoting a caring, healthy, stimulating, safe and secure environment for children and young people in statutory care.

As a support worker you will also be responsible for the day to day care of adolescents, they are unable to live with their parents due to a number of reasons such as abuse, neglect or child protection issues. The role encapsulates not only the routine aspects of care but also developing a good working relationship with young people in a very challenging period in their lives. 

Shift work duties include evenings, sleep-overs, weekends and public holidays.

SAF have a focus on personal development and you will be provided training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, SAF Therapeutic Care Practice Framework and a range of other training opportunities.

Essential Requirements

  • Certificate 4 in Youth Work, Welfare or Community Services.
  • Experience of working with adolescents and their families.
  • Sound working knowledge of Child Protection and Out of Home Care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Intermediate computer skills and report writing skills.
  • Full NSW Driver License
  • First Aid Certificate, WWCC

Desirable

  • Minimum 6 months experience of providing direct care within residential programs and experience working with children with complex trauma (desirable)
  • Experience working within a Therapeutic Residential Care Framework.
  • Experience working with behavioural management plans and delivering therapeutic services.
  • Degree qualification.
