Mathematics Curriculum Writer

Stile Education

Stile creates world-class classroom science resources used by over 400,000 students and 8,000 teachers around the country (and increasingly around the world). Our teachers use our web-based learning platform and resources (think videos, lesson plans, questions, simulations, puzzles, and more!) to engage their students in learning. Built right here in Australia, we’re very proud of what we’ve achieved since we started almost ten years ago.

We want to bring our modern, rigorous approach to Mathematics.

Maths is the language of science, and our teachers are telling us that they want our support in teaching it. With Stile’s science resources being so widely used and loved, we are eager to create a maths resource that will help teachers to inspire and challenge young minds right around the country.

That’s why we need your help!

We are looking for an innovative Mathematics Educator to join our team and create spectacular classroom resources. Someone creative who loves finding nifty ways to communicate complex concepts to students. Someone with a passion for supporting teachers to provide a world-class mathematics education to their students.

For the right person, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will play a crucial role in creating a maths resource that could one day be used by hundreds of thousands of students. If you get excited about instructional design, if your enthusiasm for mathematics infects those around you, if you love the idea of amplifying your talents to inspire a generation, this is your role.

You’ll be working in a small team of enthusiastic maths geeks headed by Australia’s previous Chief Scientist, Alan Finkel. Alan, one of Stile’s founders, is highly accomplished, inspiring, driven, and a delight to work with.

The Details

What’s in it for you:

  • You’ll join an amazing 70-strong team of educators, scientists, artists and engineers. Imagine a workplace where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific and mathematical literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves and each other to a high standard and love what we do.
  • You’ll be extremely well supported. We value our people, and it’s important to us that they’re happy. We have strong management and feedback frameworks, an Employee Assistance Program and a progressive parental leave policy.
  • You’ll be working on something that really matters. In partnership with teachers, we’re coaching students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers.
  • Regular professional development – we’re lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, you’ll have the opportunity to attend internal and external PD.
  • The annual company snow trip (COVID willing, of course).
  • A Mac laptop and whatever other bits and pieces you need to be productive.

How you’ll spend your time

  • You’ll work in a small team to write and develop engaging and effective mathematics lessons and activities to be trialled by teachers.
  • You’ll have access to our ‘dream team’ of illustrators, simulation designers, videographers, and editors to help you make your resources fantastic.
  • You’ll listen closely to teacher feedback and work to proactively ensure our lessons have all the bells and whistles to delight teachers and make their lives easier, such as model answers and supporting teacher notes.

A bit more about you

  • You’re passionate about sharing your love of maths with others, and you find yourself researching and learning about the best ways you might do that.
  • You have a strong maths background – this is essential for success in this role. Studying mathematics to at least a first-year university level is a minimum.
  • You are innovative and adaptable. You use your wealth of mathematics teaching experience to recognise and implement effective evidence-based practices.
  • You’re an excellent writer. You clearly communicate complex mathematical ideas both to teachers and a younger audience.
  • You’re creative. You know how to bring content alive for students, helping them make relevant connections to the world around them.

Hours and location

This is a full-time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. While we think collaboration in an office environment is an important part of building the best possible resources, we also appreciate that working from home or away from the office can help with concentration and the flexibility needed in modern life. Need to pick up the kids? No worries – we’re all about what you achieve, not the hours of the day that you achieve it. Our (awesome) office is located on Exhibition Street in Melbourne CBD.
