The St Vincent de Paul Society is a leading provider of community support services and has been assisting people experiencing disadvantage in NSW for more than 130 years. Our people reach out to the most vulnerable in our community through our Conferences, Special Works and Vinnies shops. About the Service
Community Support Centres are a point of contact for people seeking assistance from the St Vincent de Paul Society. Community Support Centres also provide administrative and practical support to local Society Members.
The Role
The Welfare Support Officer will assist the Client Support Officer in delivering client services within the Liverpool Region in accordance with St Vincent de Paul Society ethos and policies. You will be dealing with people of diverse cultural and linguistic background and people with disability or health and mental issues. Your ability to relate to people in a respectful, non-judgmental attitude and ability to respect the rights of clients at all times are important to this role.
The Welfare Support Officer will:
- Interview, assess and identify client needs, provide financial/material assistance within delegated authority
- Promote clients' sense of empowerment and independence
- Refer clients to local services as appropriate, advocate on their behalf with external agencies where necessary
- Ensure accurate record keeping, update client databases in a timely manner
- Work in collaboration with local Society Members and services including Liverpool Men's Centre and Liverpool Night Patrol
This role will report to the Client Support Officer.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Minimum Cert IV in Community Services or other relevant qualification and a minimum of two years' experience working in the community sector
- Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting on vulnerable populations including people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, and those dealing with mental illness, disability, and/or alcohol or other drug issues
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated administrative and computer skills
- Sound knowledge of WHS legislation as it relates to the workplace
- Willingness to work within the Mission and ethos of the St Vincent de Paul Society.
