About the Opportunity

St John has been in partnership with the Coroners Court Of Victoria providing transport services in metropolitan areas and repatriation services to regional Victoria. This partnership has been very successful over the years and St John continues to provide improved service delivery and logistical capability, utilisation of a modern communication and coordination centre, and greater insights into improvements that can be made to service performance.

We are currently seeking additional team members to work as Transport Officers to provide a significant and valuable service to our community through the transport of deceased persons. With a strong level of personal resilience, you will demonstrate a strong customer service orientation as well as a high level of respectfulness and professionalism in often challenging circumstances. Performing duties as a dual crew member or as a single operator, you will be required to work on a rotational roster on a variety of shift types including but not restricted to Metro Day, Night, On Call Shifts and Regional repatriation shifts. The average shift length is 10 hours.

About You

This opportunity is suited to those with a great level of resilience, who demonstrate the compassion, dignity and respect of the deceased persons, and who understands the need to engage with professionalism and understanding with families members involved, the emergency services and law enforcement workers.

Essential Skills and Attributes (Selection Criteria):

  • Experienced working in health, hospital, funeral, aged care, emergency services or a related industry where you have had exposure to deceased persons.
  • Demonstrates a professional and respectful approach when handling and transporting deceased persons.
  • Demonstrates empathy when interacting with families/friends of deceased persons.
  • High levels of resilience, presentation and communication.
  • Reliable and flexible in availability - able to work a rotational roster that includes nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction and strict transport protocols.
  • Sound understanding of OHS and manual handling procedures.
  • An ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Licences and accreditations

  • You will also be required to undertake as a Psychometric Evaluation and a Medical Assessment.
  • Current Full Victorian Driver Licence with evidence of safe driving record.
  • Able to provide evidence of current and updated vaccinations, including Hepatitis B, Influenza, Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR), Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Varicella (Chickenpox) - plus a willingness to COVID vaccinate preferred.
  • Willingness to undertake a current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
