Special Olympics Australia was established in 1976 providing sporting opportunities for people with an intellectual disability of all ages and abilities.

Our global mission is to provide year-round sports training, quality coaching and competition in 16 Olympic and Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

We create accessible sports training, coaching and competition opportunities for all people with an intellectual disability whether they want to take part in recreational activities, aspire to climb the competition ladder or seek additional opportunities outside of our program.

Key Tasks

  1. The NDIS Project Manager will provide the leadership, engagement, project management, detailed business modelling and implementation planning required across Special Olympics Australia to enable the organisation to engage successfully with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and our stakeholders consistent with our strategic plan.
  2. Further develop and implement a Special Olympics -wide NDIS Business Transformation and Change Management Project to engage stakeholders across the organisation in successfully doing business differently under NDIS and implementing the agreed strategy.
  3. Undertake the detailed financial modelling required to underpin the development of an agreed suite of Special Olympics Australia related NDIS services.
  4. Lead the implementation required to enable the strategy to be successful, ensuring key milestones and agreed timelines are met.
  5. Provide training and lead change management at both front-line and senior levels to instil a highly customer oriented approach across the organisation in relation to NDIS.
  6. Monitor revenue and costs and ensure timely, effective and efficient invoicing and payment processes are being followed.
  7. In collaboration with stakeholders develop procedures and processes to support appropriate service provision for SOA NDIS Participants and their families.
  8. Ensure the business system requirements of the NDIS are captured within SOA’s systems, particularly as the organisation transitions to a new whole of organisation CRM system.
  9. Identify service gaps or partnerships which may present as opportunities for future development.
  10. Identify and build sound relationships with other organisations involved in our implementation of NDIS, including referral partners, service providers to outsource to and potentially sources of outsourced work.
  11. Effectively role model the SOA values of Respect, Trust and Sportsmanship.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Minimum Degree level tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field (eg., Disability, social policy, community development, allied health, commerce)
  2. In-depth knowledge of the NDIS – the philosophy, business drivers, client eligibility requirements, service requirements, pilot site lessons learned, program modelling, etc.
  3. Proficiency in project management methodologies,
  4. Substantial experience in developing and leading complex projects in human service organisations.
  5. Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to participate collaboratively with staff and other stakeholders, as well as display initiative and effective personal judgement when working alone.
  6. Well established external industry networks and a demonstrated capacity to exercise influence within an NDIS environment and lead positive change.
  7. Previous experience in change management

  1. An understanding of the workings of not-for-profit and/or national disability sporting organisations
