ARC Justice is an independent, not-for-profit, human rights organisation that incorporates the Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre, the Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre and Housing Justice.

Through the delivery of accessible legal services and tenancy advice, ARC Justice not only provides support to people in regional and rural Victoria experiencing disadvantage relating to their housing, family, relationship, consumer, economic, social and civil rights. They advocate for systemic change to create a fairer and more inclusive community.

Your Impact

In the role of Senior Lawyer, you will be responsible for providing legal assistance to clients in key practice areas of law including family violence, child protection, family law and general civil law. Specifically, you will:

  • Maintain a caseload of legal matters
  • Deliver duty lawyer services at regional courts
  • Conduct complex litigation files and participate in dispute resolution
  • Provide training and supervision to junior lawyers, volunteers and paralegals
  • Coordinate and deliver legal education, information and outreach services to the community
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships to develop community engagement and support referral pathways.

What you bring

You are a lawyer who has a commitment to social justice and has previous experience working within a community legal centre or have relevant experience from working in a law firm.

You also have:

  • Minimum of four years post admission and currently holds or is eligible to obtain an unrestricted practicing certificate.
  • Experience providing legal advice casework, and representation, in one or more of key practice areas of family violence, child protection and general civil.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with people who have complex vulnerabilities including trauma
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high-level of consistent standards of quality service while working independently and within a small cohesive team
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills with an ability to collaborate with a cross section of the community and sector partners.
