Shakti Community Council Inc. is a 25 year old non-profit, national community organization, providing social services to Asian, African and Middle Eastern communities in New Zealand.
About the role
Shakti requires a full time National Operations Manager based in Auckland. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications in Human Resources and experience.
This role involves strategic management and advocacy at government level to improve the response to, and prevention of, violence against women, youth and children. This position works in partnership with the National Service Delivery Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that policies, standards of practice and quality assurance are maintained by the organisation with respect to management.
- Be responsible for recruitment and human resource related activities. This includes staff management, performance management and staff well-being.
- Working in partnership with the National Service Delivery Manager who oversees our social workers and service delivery for Asian, African and Middle Eastern women and families.
- Ensuring that our national organisation functions professionally through strengthening relationships between member organisations, between the National Office and member organisations, and actively engage in conflict resolution measures.
- Ensuring that our organisation remains dynamic, true to its cause, and recognizes the changing needs of New Zealand's migrant and refugee communities while helping facilitate their short term and long term well-being.
- Writing and submitting reports to the Shakti Community Council governance
- This position reports to and is accountable to the Chief Operating Officer.
- Since you are keen to be a social change agent, you will work towards enabling safer, empowered ethnic (Asian, African and Middle Eastern) communities.

Skills and experience
To manage this work you will require the following skills/attributes:
- Have qualifications linked to Human Resource Management or not for profit management.
- Be highly motivated and believe in the cause of stopping gender-based violence enabling women and their families to lead empowered, safe and self-reliant lives.
- Strategic leadership and planning skills.
- Collaborative management style.
- Ability to connect with and respect colleagues across a diverse range of cultures and identities.

- Have excellent cross-cultural communication skills.

- Be fluent in English – spoken and written --- and able to write reports and submissions.
- Besides English, you will be able to speak in at least one Asian, African or Middle Eastern language and have similar lived experiences.
- Have at least 3 years' work experience working in a managerial capacity in New Zealand or overseas.
