Where you come in:

Based in Port Vila, Vanuatu you will provide technical leadership and advice for the design, implementation and monitoring of Child Protection related activities by Save the Children in Vanuatu. Your willingness to travel for up to 30% of your time to support programme implementation and occasionally work unusual hours and occasionally in stressful conditions will see you become an integral member of the Save the Children Vanuatu team. The contract is initially for 12 months with the possibility of renewal dependent on funding.

You will make an impact by:

  • Strengthening the capacity of local civil society organizations on issues related to Child Protection in Emergencies, specifically related to needs assessment, proposal writing, training etc.
  • Coordination of Save the Children's Child Protection activities through active participation in national level meetings and working groups.
  • Developing proposals and securing funding for Child Protection programming
  • Establishing systems for Child Protection programme monitoring, quality improvement, accountability, evaluation and learning
  • Ensuring that learning and results are captured, shared and used to inform future programmes

If we could compose the perfect you…

…You have significant experience of working in Child Protection programming in both development and emergency contexts, preferably in the Pacific. Patience, tact and diplomacy, couple with strong interpersonal skills will see you hold a level of awareness to always be culturally sensitive. Excellent English written and oral communications skills, which translates to strong proposal writing skills will show your effectiveness in engaging with major donors. Being known as a mentor, you have a proven track record of training and building the capacity of local partner organizations and their staff.

This role requires:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or Human Rights or equivalent field experience
  • Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work
  • Demonstrated experience in representation and advocacy skills
  • Notable experience in building strong Child Protection systems and in delivering services to children in emergencies
