Every day of the year, Sacred Heart Mission (SHM) assist hundreds of people who are experiencing homelessness or living in poverty to find shelter, food, care and support. Your new role will include

Looking for a passionate Kitchen Hand to join the team on a casual basis. The role is responsible for providing the highest quality, most effective and caring service to service users. This includes kitchen clean up, food preparation and unloading truck deliveries.

Your day-to-day

A typical day will involve:

Kitchen Clean up

  • Coordinate the wash-up area during shifts, including directing volunteers
  • Safely dispose of food scraps
  • Clean up and wash cutlery, crockery and cooking pans
  • Mop floors and non-slip floor mats
  • Wash bench tipis with appropriate disinfectants

Food Preparation

  • Assist chefs in the preparation of approximately 450 meals per day
  • Wash and chop produce
  • Collect food from dry store and freezer

Unload Truck Deliveries

  • Unload truck deliveries.
  • Ensure orderly maintenance of storage area.
  • Move equipment and food items as per safe manual handling policy and procedures.

We're looking for someone

  • With previous experience as a kitchen hand (desirable but not essential)
  • Able to do weekend shifts
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations in relation to food hygiene standards and workplace safety
  • A proven ability to manage the kitchen environment in a safe and responsible manner
  • An ability to work independently as well as an effective team member
  • Commitment to providing a high standard of customer service
  • Current COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate or equivalent
