This exciting new role will work closely with the CEO to lead communication activities for the organisation across a wide range of projects and programs to address homelessness in the City of Port Phillip. The position will be responsible for developing effective communication plans, strategies and reports, including design and publication of annual reports, to key stakeholders.

Formed in 1983, South Port Community Housing Group (SPCHG) creates and manages affordable rental housing options in the City of Port Phillip for single adults and young people who have faced homelessness and social exclusion. We work exclusively with people who are most in need of an affordable, supportive place to live and create opportunities to participate in local community.
About you
We're seeking a confident communicator and writer, able to create compelling content for different audiences including tenants, donors, government and industry.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Lead the development of key reports for the organisation, including the annual report.
- Develop newsletters, articles and other key communications to inform the local community of key events and community building activities.
- Develop communication materials that promote the organisation’s purpose, strategic goals and achievements in line with its communication plan, business plan and three year strategic plan.
- Lead the organisations participation in, and contributions to, key national and local campaigns to increase social housing and support to vulnerable Victorians.
- Lead the preparation and smooth running of monthly board meetings.
- Coordinate student and volunteer placements that benefit the operations of the organisation.
- Investigate and respond to feedback and complaints in line with the organisation’s complaints policy framework.
- Develop high level knowledge of the provisions of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 and Residential Tenancies Regulations Amendment Act.
Key Selection Criteria
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate communications, journalism, PR or related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including capacity to relate well to people who are applicants and tenants, as well as to professionals in the sector and community members.
- Understanding of the systemic and individual causes of homelessness, and compounding effect of complex needs.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including project planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation and an ability to work independently.
- A clear Working with Children Check.
