You are an energetic, organised and experienced generalist lawyer with a passion for social justice. Your proven advice and casework experience in criminal and family law will be considered favourably, together with experience across a number of other relevant areas including fines, debts, VOCAT, discrimination, family violence, tenancy.
You have experience working with and supervising volunteers, and are available to work from approximately 3.00pm - 9.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday, so that you can assist with the volunteer night service on those two evenings.
You are proactive, friendly, and ready to work within a small team of staff and volunteers. You are able to develop systems and processes that work for you, and work with limited administrative resources. You are willing to learn and grow in aspects relating your job which you might not be familiar with.
This is an opportunity to support our generalist volunteer-based night service to provide high quality, appropriate and targeted legal assistance to people experiencing disadvantage or vulnerability in the local area. This role also undertakes follow-up advice and casework work from the night service across a number of areas, and maintains a minimal casework as capacity requires.
St. Kilda Legal Service (SKLS) was established in 1973 and provides legal advice, referral and casework services to the local community. SKLS is committed to undertaking community legal education, policy development and advocating for law reform as a core function and an integral part of the Legal Service’s activities and recognises that this work complements the legal casework undertaken. Our philosophy is one of empowerment and access to justice particularly for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in the community.
