Do you have nurse educator skills that you would like to share with a developing nation?
St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) has been operating the capacity building Nursing Development Program in Timor-Leste in partnership with the Ministry of Health since 2010.
We are now seeking to further develop our team of nurses and midwives based in Dili, who are working alongside Timorese nurses and midwives in the Dili National Referral Hospital to assist in the process of building their nursing and midwifery knowledge and skills.
We are interested in hearing from experienced Nurse Educators with one or more of the following qualifications, skills and experience:
The successful candidates will be offered a two year fixed term contract working 76 hours a fortnight, with deployment to Timor-Leste expected to be late in 2019 or early 2020.
More information about our capacity building work in Timor-Leste and other neighbouring countries can be found at https://www.sjog.org.au/about-us/social-outreach/international-health.
Working and living in a developed country is very different from the environment you will experience in Timor-Leste, and candidates must be innovative, flexible, adaptable, resilient and patient. Our Nursing Development Program nurses and midwives do not focus on direct service provision and must be prepared to use a broad range of skills and personal attributes to work in a model that promotes practice change and sustainability. This model ensures support for the development of nursing and midwifery practices in Timor-Leste in such a way that they are sustainable now and into the future.
The Nursing Development Program operated by St John of God Health Care is part of a wider commitment to Timor-Leste, which includes a Quality and a Leadership and Management Program. Our work in Timor-Leste has been recognised by the Ministry of Health as amongst the most successful by a non-government agency since the country’s independence.
St John of God Health Care embraces diversity and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people with disabilities.
