Remote / Work from Home
The YMCA (‘the Y’) is the largest youth movement in the world, reaching 65 million people in over 120 countries, in every continent. In Australia, our 13 member associations span 650 communities Australia wide, through the dedication of our 12,000+ staff and volunteers. Emerging from the pandemic, the work of Y Australia (as the National entity of the Y), in standing with and for young people, and supporting community, has never been so important. Y Australia is now entering an exciting phase of change and community impact, in establishing a new entity, Y Careers. Drawing from our deep partnerships with local community and complementary organisations, and our broad footprint across Australia, Y Careers will assist in developing an Australian-wide solution to youth underemployment and the shortage of skilled workers in the care economy (and over time, other essential sectors). The establishment of Y Careers will support thousands of young Australians to gain skills and develop meaningful career pathways in childcare, disability care and aged care; and in doing so, help build a stronger care economy for our nation.
We are committed to empowering all children and young people to feel safe and be safe, at the Y, in their families and in their communities. All candidates are appropriately screened (including police checks) to make sure that the right people are in the right roles. Reporting to, and working collaboratively with, the Board of Y Careers and the CEO of Y Australia, the Executive Director will provide leadership, operational excellence and entrepreneurship in establishing Y Careers. This inaugural role will be responsible for launching, operationalising, managing and scaling this new entity. This includes financial management, building a high-performing team and managing partners and diverse stakeholders. The appointee will ensure accountability and effective governance, and be committed to accurate reporting, evaluation and continuous improvement. Critical to success in this position is developing and maintaining collaborative alliances with government and consortium partners in establishing and delivering this pivotal employment network.
A highly respected Director or Executive Leader, you are commercially astute, achievement orientated and exceptional at problem-solving and adapting to changing circumstances. Ideally, you have demonstrated experience in scaling of a start-up and/or comparable fast-paced, complex, client-facing business venture. With expertise in strategic planning and execution, you are accustomed to accountability, taking people on the journey and building respect. Adept at nurturing relationships with diverse stakeholders, your well-developed influencing and advocacy skills are underpinned by your gravitas, exceptional communication capabilities and high EQ. You relish the opportunity to make a real impact, creating meaningful career pathways for young Australians and building a stronger care economy.
