ABOUT THE ROLE

Join a growing team focused on achieving local and regional health impact through the curation, analysis and translation of data to answer important questions about the health care needs south east Melbourne. We are looking for a skilled Analyst / Power BI Developer to foster development of Power BI data models, reports, and apps with the intention of delivering clear visual insights to all stakeholder levels. This is a highly collaborative, cross-functional role that will contribute to the reporting infrastructure to monitor programs’ performance and data quality, across Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs programs for our South Eastern Melbourne catchment.

Any given day may look like:  

  • Reporting platform enhancements that support the ongoing improvement of SEMPHN commissioned programs. 
  • Developing and maintaining an interactive tool “Health Needs Atlas” to inform health needs in the region. 
  • Developing complex data models from varying sources with incremental refresh, model performance optimisation/tuning and hierarchical data. 
  • Utilising external data sources and internal applications via Power BI reports and apps (including string, web-hook, time intelligence and geo spatial data) to undertake Data visualisation. 
  • Performing UI design including development of a theme in alignment with the project style guide. 
  • Building DAX queries and functions in Power BI aligned with best practice and industry standard for optimal data model and reporting performance including hierarchical data models.

ABOUT YOU

  • You will have tertiary qualification in Computer Science, IT, Data Science or other relevant numeric discipline. 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work at ease in the context of ambiguity. 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation/influencing skills with demonstrated capacity to prepare adept written material in various formats.
  • Proven experience in developing data models, reports, and apps. 
  • Advanced experience in Power BI, specifically DAX modelling (table, aggregation, and iteration functions), Power BI gateways, Power Maps, Power Pivot, and Power BI web server. 
  • Advanced SQL coding skills (essential), specifically creating stored procedures and views, with modest knowledge and experience in database tuning. 
  • Experience using tools and systems on MS SQL Server BI Stack, including SSRS and T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, Power Query, MDX, Power Apps. Python or R coding skills (highly desirable). 
  • Experience in data integration & master data management. Knowledge of modern data warehousing concepts is a bonus.
