More action is needed to reduce emissions and manage climate change. At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria’s transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria’s renewable energy target of 95% by 2035. 

The SEC is a state-owned company that will help shape a more reliable and affordable renewable energy future for all Victorians.  

Your role 

As the General Manager, Energy Analytics at the SEC, you will be responsible for establishing and leading the energy markets analytics team to provide actionable insights, guide the development of a portfolio of trading products, oversee products and pricing, and inform the investment team’s investment strategy.

This role can be based in either our Melbourne CBD office or our regional office located in Morwell. This role is the equivalent of a VPS STS 1.

What you will do: 

  • Provide leadership to ensure timely and comprehensive market analysis and the development of a portfolio of trading products.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager of Trading, support and oversee the products and pricing for the SEC by implementing effective strategies that align with business objectives, including undertaking predictive price modelling and commercial and industry customer analysis.
  • Develop and lead the strategic direction of a high-performing energy markets analytics team.
  • Work closely with the investments team to provide robust input on energy market analytics and guide their investment decisions to ensure alignment with the trading portfolio direction.

Who you are: 

You are a strategic leader with deep experience in the Australian energy market. You are a highly knowledgeable, detail-oriented and collaborative leader with exceptional communication and decision-making skills.

Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:

  • Detailed understanding of the operation of the Victorian and national energy markets including market trends and movements, transmission lines, commercial investment opportunities and energy trading.
  • Expert experience in electricity market analysis, with hands-on experience in modelling, statistics, forecasting, and data science applications.
  • Advanced business and commercial acumen.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing analytical teams within power companies.
  • Expert experience with collaborating with peers to translate vision and strategy into actionable goals and deliverable outcomes for an organisation.
  • A relevant tertiary degree/qualification in engineering, commerce or another related field would be well regarded.
  • Passion for innovation and leading the transition to a fully renewable electricity systems though insight and analysis of the future.
