We are looking for a dynamic and passionate educator who wants to make a difference teaching our sexuality and relationships programs in secondary schools (desire to work in primary schools would be an advantage).

The job:

  • deliver programs as outlined by SEA and following the lesson plans provided
  • travel to clients to deliver programs or deliver online

About SEA:

Sex Education Australia (SEA) works in primary and secondary schools in Victoria as well as with tertiary institutions and community groups.

Our school programs are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and are run by experienced teachers who deliver dynamic and informative sessions. SEA provides key messages that young people can take away to help them with their decision making, health and safety.

SEA educators are committed to delivering programs that are age-appropriate, accurate and relevant, and help young people to:

  • develop confidence to talk about and understand how their bodies work
  • learn about respect and consent and how important it is
  • develop their ability to stand up for themselves in their friendships and relationships
  • develop their sexual health knowledge and decision-making skills
  • manage risk and increase free and sincere choice
  • develop positive attitudes about sexuality
  • celebrate diversity in our communities and schools

Employment conditions:

  • three-month probationary period and training. The successful candidate will undergo a training period consisting of an initial meeting, observing SEA staff teaching and finally running a program independently whilst being evaluated by a SEA staff member
  • work can be sporadic at times and this is a casual position
  • work is offered during Victorian school term dates which may vary according to schools. Most work is based in Melbourne, however, some work may be outside Melbourne metro or online
  • SEA reserves the right to not offer ongoing work at the end of the training period if teaching standards have not been met
  • Australian citizenship, residency or valid visa to work in Australia is essential

Qualifications and experience:

  • teaching qualifications or similar
  • relevant teaching experience
  • current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration (VIT) is preferred
  • current Working with Children Check
  • current valid driver’s licence and personal vehicle for transport

Key selection criteria:

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following selection criteria:

  • be available 3-4 days a week
  • high quality teaching skills and the ability to manage and engage young people
  • excellent classroom management
  • high level of organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to be flexible and take on a variety of teaching roles in various settings
  • willingness to develop professional practice and keep up to date with current educational practices and issues relating to sexuality and relationships education
