About the Role:

The SA Unions Workers Compensation Service is a busy, not-for-profit advocacy service providing free dispute resolution and advocacy services to workers who need help with their workers' compensation claims.

Reporting to the SA Unions Secretary, the Senior Advocate will be responsible for advocating on behalf of clients and coordinating the service, supported by an industrial assistant and an information officer.

The service is funded by a three year grant, with 18 months remaining. The service has enjoyed recurrent funding for many years and has recently grown, and we’re looking for an energetic leader who is excited about helping to grow the service into the future.

The Senior Advocate will be responsible for:

  • Advocating for and representing clients with workers' compensation applications and disputes;
  • Providing clients with legal advice regarding workers' compensation claims, disputes and settlements, including the provision of professional advice for redemption agreements;
  • Liaising with medical practitioners to obtain relevant evidentiary information;
  • Working as part of a team to promote the service to clients and referring agencies;
  • Supporting the development of the Service as a professional and highly regarded service for workers which promotes union values;
  • Linking with the trade union workers' compensation community;
  • Training, mentoring and supervising a small team and managing staff budgets.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Commitment to and experience in supporting injured workers;
  • Commitment to the trade union movement;
  • High level negotiation and advocacy skills;
  • Ability to manage complex and competing priorities;
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation;
  • Experience in workers' compensation law and practice;
  • Ability to manage diverse and demanding interpersonal interactions; and
  • Managerial and change management experience is desirable.

This is a fixed term, grant funded position offered under the current 3-year funding grant. Employment conditions subject to the SA Unions Enterprise Agreement.

Salary: $106,000 full-time with 12% superannuation.

Flexible working arrangements and attractive leave entitlements including 12 rostered days off per year, Christmas shutdown leave and 4 weeks annual leave.

Whilst the position is based in the Adelaide CBD, staff have access to remote working options.
