About the role

Our Workers Compensation unit provides free dispute resolution and advocacy services to workers who need help with their workers compensation claims.

Reporting to the Workers Compensation Service Coordinator, this new role will be the first point of contact for injured workers to get information and advice on their rights and how to navigate the Return to Work system. You will provide advice and assistance on general claims issues by phone, email, our website and social media channels.

This role would suit an early career lawyer, paralegal or industrial officer with experience in industrial law.

You'll need to:

  • Maintain records of calls/queries.
  • Refer workers to the Advocate for representation when required.
  • Contact claims agents to assist with general queries/issues.
  • Create and maintain information fact sheet style information via website.
  • Respond to referrals from the Tribunal, Agents and the Compensating Authority.

Skills

  • Legal, paralegal or industrial officer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to produce high quality plans and reports.
  • A working knowledge of the Return to Work Act and relevant workplace legislation.
  • Prior experience working for a trade union or in an in-house role with exposure to industrial relations or employment law.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to union values and integrity.
  • Familiarity with union coverage and priorities in South Australia.

Details

This is a fixed term, grant funded position offered under a 3-year funding grant. Employment conditions subject to the SA Unions Enterprise Agreement.

Salary: $84,500 full-time with 12% superannuation.

Flexible working arrangements and attractive leave entitlements including 12 rostered days off per year, Christmas shutdown leave and 4 weeks annual leave.

Whilst the position is based in the Adelaide CBD, staff have access to remote working options.
