Roses in the Ocean is a national not for profit organisation founded on and operating through the lens of lived experience of suicide; we exist to save lives and to reduce emotional distress and pain. We seek to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of all we represent, along with our own lived experience of suicide. With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform. We support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention.
Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Suicide Prevention Peer Workforce Development and Support, this role is responsible for oversight and delivery of Peer Worker support such as mentoring, co-reflection and communities of practice and the delivery of skill development workshops. The role will promote peer values and social justice principles via PEERnet, while also collaborating to establish it as a premier development platform.
Additionally, the role supports Roses in the Ocean's strategic initiatives by contributing to various regional, state, and national strategies, policies, and development efforts aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and integration of the peer workforce across diverse contexts.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordination and delivery of mentoring, co-reflection, community of practice, and facilitation of workshops as a senior peer worker.
- Contributing to and collaboration in the promotion of peer values, lived experience and social justice principles through online portal PEERnet and across Roses in the Ocean. This includes research, development and writing of content for the site.
- Collaborating to establish PEERnet as offering a quality, unique value adding professional development service, to help advance and support the emerging Suicide Prevention Workforce.
- Developing training workshops and liaising with stakeholders to create and deliver bespoke sessions, as well as creating individual training modules for online professional development resources, in collaboration with the Head of Suicide Prevention Peer Workforce Development and Support, ensuring these resources are tailored to the diverse needs of the peer workforce.
- Liaising and collaborating with additional sectors with peer workforces that intersect with suicide prevention to build connections and advocate for greater integration and professionalisation of the workforce.
- Responsible for coordinating, training, and supporting mentors and facilitators, processing their monthly invoices for approval, and completing the month-end acquittal process on Monday.com
This role requires strong proven skills and previous success as a senior peer worker who enjoys peer mentoring, writing training content and group facilitation.
Please note, if you live within the Brisbane greater region, there will be an expectation for you to work a Hybrid model, 2 days from home, 3 days in our office located in Newstead. If you live in regional Queensland or Interstate you can work remotely from home.
About You
You’ll bring with you:
- A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends and communities.
- Personal values that align with those of Roses in the Ocean and the Lived Experience Guiding Principles.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Peer Work, including Peer mentoring
- Demonstrated ability to develop training content and facilitate group training that complies with peer work principles.
- Professionally presented with outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, self-manage and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience in creating high-quality written content
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, SharePoint and a working knowledge of Monday.com would be beneficial.
- Completed studies in Intentional Peer Support or the Certificate IV in Peer Work will be highly regarded.
