ABOUT US

The RYSS Youth Hub offers:

  • Youth engagement activities to build resilience, cultural connections, improve life-skills and prepare for the workforce.
  • Early Intervention- capacity building to increase wellbeing, knowledge, practice skills and build a sense of self, including programs for young people
  • Provide Outreach community based engagement activities to develop capacity to address youth issues; and
  • Provide Individualised case management activities.

The support provided to at-risk youth contributes to greater community resilience and wellbeing by addressing crime, anti-social behaviour and other security risks through community and social activities. which will in turn assist marginalised youth at high risk to develop life skills to prevent them from becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system and to promote inclusion and build community resilience.

about the role

The role requires one on one support, family support, and group work delivery that utilise specific skills and training related to supporting the mental health and overall wellbeing of young people. The Casework/Counsellor assists the young person in the identification of their goals and objectives, and to follow those identified outcomes and case plans, and may also require assisting young people and young families in the design, planning, and assessment of additional support needs by The Hub team, other teams within RYSS, or more broadly with other services relevant to the needs of the young person.

Further, this role requires the development and implementation of specific group and one on one interventions for young people that support improved mental health and wellbeing, resilience, and additional support to access more intensive support to assist with identified needs in the context of mental wellbeing. This can include supporting young people with emerging and diagnosed mental illness, including dual diagnosis and psychosocial disabilities.

Essential Criteria

All items must be addressed in writing, to be considered for this role:

  • Relevant qualifications - minimum Diploma level qualification in Counselling or equivalent
  • Understanding of strengths-based practice and commitment to solution focused intervention to promote meaningful change for young people and their families.
  • Own reliable transport, current drivers licence and comprehensively insured vehicle and an ability to drive a 12-seater mini bus (C-Class licence)
  • Good organisational and administrative skills, ability to manage competing priorities and time effectively, and excellent computer skills (proficient in Office365, Internet Applications, and Social Media)
  • Ability to maintain and role model healthy professional boundaries and relationships.
  • The ability to work independently with initiative and as a part of a multi-faceted support team to deliver services to Central Coast young people
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, most importantly to be able to engage with Young People and/or their families in an effective manner.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (or proof of enrolment to course)
  • A practical understanding of WH&S and maintaining policy and procedures
