Purpose of the Position

The purpose of the position is to support the preservation and restoration of endangered rainforest in the Daintree region at the direction of senior staff. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform property maintenance and restoration activities

Key Result Areas and Accountabilities

  • Property and restoration field work
  • Tree planting
  • Herbicide application
  • Assist with Invasive species management
  • Ad hoc duties as directed by the Land Manager

Standard & Special Requirements

Comply with any direction or instruction aimed at ensuring workplace health, safety, and welfare. Cooperate and consult with colleagues in the promotion of workplace health, safety, and welfare matters. Use safe operating procedures to maintain healthy and safe working conditions and to avoid adverse effects on the health and safety of other staff. Take responsibility for one’s own safety as well as that of other representatives, volunteers, and visitors to Rainforest Rescue work sites. Regional travel and some out of hours work may be required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Appreciation for tropical rainforest restoration theory and practice
  • Good interpersonal skills & physical fitness
  • Ability to use land management equipment competently and safely

Desirable

  • Completion of a Certificate in Conservation and Land Management (or equivalent)
  • Current Chainsaw Operation certificate
  • Current Chemical Application License, or willingness to obtain this
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain this
  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card), or willingness to obtain this
  • Experience and ease with working alone
  • Experience working in and understanding of not-for-profit organisations
  • Commitment to rainforest conservation and the environment
