Rainbow Families aims to build a community which fosters resiliency by connecting, supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ families. We provide support and resources to members of the LGBTQ+ community so that they and their families can live their best and most colourful lives. We host events that connect LGBTQ+ families, particularly those that are feeling isolated because of social pressures, financial difficulty or where they live. We advocate on behalf of our community and are a strong and consistent voice for LGBTQ+ families to address discrimination, raise awareness and promote acceptance.

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for someone passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ parents and their families. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning and delivering a variety of projects for Rainbow Families, through supporting staff and volunteers with existing and new projects.

  • Planning and coordination of Rainbow Families events
  • Responding to enquiries via phone, email and social media
  • Supporting the Community Welfare and Education Committee to deliver projects and resources

We are looking for someone who is self motivated and solution focused, with a background working on a variety of projects at one time. Ideally you have an understanding of the for-purpose sector and/or working or volunteering within the sector, supporting LGBTQ+ people and/or families.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

  1. Ability to work independently within a small team
  2. Working with Children Check (NSW) and Criminal Reference Check
  3. Understanding of the needs and challenges of For Purpose Organisations
  4. Understanding of the needs of LGBTQ+ parents and their children
  5. Relevant tertiary qualifications or training in community services, social sciences, project management, business management or similar.

This is a part time role – approximately 2 - 3 days per week depending on the availability of the successful candidate. This position is a work from home position paid Level 3 - Social community home care and disability services industry award - $31.75 per hour.
