The mission of Rainbow Families is to build a community which fosters resiliency by connecting, supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ families. We provide support and resources to members of the LGBTQ+ community so that they and their families can live their best and most colourful lives. We host events that connect LGBTQ+ families, particularly those that are feeling isolated because of social pressures, financial difficulty or where they live. We advocate on behalf of our community and are a strong and consistent voice for LGBTQ+ families to address discrimination, raise awareness and promote acceptance.

The Role

As development officer, you will work with a small dynamic team to build a sustainable and impactful organisation dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ parents and their families.

With the support of our Executive Officer you will develop and execute our fundraising plan (to be approved by the board), which has a focus on major gifts, corporate partnerships, grants and philanthropic donations.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Develop and execute a fundraising plan for the next 12 months
  2. Monitor progress against fundraising plan and preparing internal performance reports
  3. Identify and explore donor prospects
  4. Work with the Marketing Team to prepare communications assets
  5. Work with the Marketing Team to execute fundraising campaigns
  6. Work with the Events Team to deliver at least two fundraising events per year

Skills Required

Ideally you have an understanding of the for-purpose sector - specifically fundraising, and/or working or volunteering within the sector, utilising your superior organisational and interpersonal skills, and have a genuine passion for social change.

You also have the following:

  1. The ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both written and verbal
  2. Proficiency with technology and data management systems, including CRM systems
  3. Sufficient financial literacy to analyse and report on fundraising progress
  4. Ability to work independently within a small team

  • Part time role – 1 day per week (0.2 FTE)
  • Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
  • Flexible hours
  • $70,000 - $80,000 + super (FTE)
