About the role
The Media Manager is responsible for working effectively with media outlets to maximise positive editorial coverage and help manage reputational risks and issues for RSPCA Victoria.
Duties and responsibilities include
- Lead the media function including managing one media advisor
- Build trusted relationships and provide media advice and support for a range of internal stakeholders including the CEO and Senior Leadership Team
- Proactively maintain and develop strong relationships with media outlets
- Develop and implement media plans and activities that promote RSPCA Victoria’s activities, Inspectorate work, products, services and animal welfare priorities, to maximise brand awareness and animal welfare knowledge in the community
- Ensure media interviews and other media coverage are appropriately handled in line with the RSPCA policy framework, legislation and codes of practice pertaining to animal welfare, by coaching relevant staff, including the CEO, for media interviews
- Ensure internal stakeholders are kept aware of media issues and opportunities as they arise
- Produce regular summaries and evaluations of media activities
- Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop annual business plans and manage complex issues, change projects and initiatives.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and/or related relevant field experience
- Extensive experience in a similar role, including demonstrated experience in managing a media function for an organisation or large department
- Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple activities at once and meet required deadlines
- Expert copywriting skills with the ability to quickly and accurately produce high quality media releases and messaging
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment
- Previous experience in a not-for-profit environment or government organisation desirable (but not essential)
Requirements for this role
- A current and valid Victorian driver licence
- Current and valid COVID-19 vaccination (primary course) records, unless a medical exemption applies
