Animal Attendants - Illawarra Shelter - Unanderra

Our Illawarra Shelter is looking for experienced Animal Attendants to join their team on a full-time basis. You must be possess energy, reliability and be motivated and willing to undertake a range of Animal Attendant responsibilities, ensuring a high standard of animal care it always maintained.

In addition to hiring full time permanent employees, we are also looking for Animal Attendants for a 6-month maternity cover fixed term.

Successful candidates will be required to work a rotating roster Monday to Sunday, including some weekends and some public holidays. Shifts are 8:00am - 4:30pm.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals New South Wales (RSPCA NSW) is a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation.

We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. RSPCA NSW is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with approximately 500 staff across NSW to care for animals.

About the Role

Our Animal Attendants ensure that animals are provided with the highest level of care while focusing on enriching their lives.

Our animals need caring for every day of the year come rain, hail or shine! Our animal enclosures are under cover but outside; you will be working in all weather conditions.

  • Perform animal care tasks such as cleaning, medicating, feeding and assessing animals
  • Provide high level customer service to all stakeholders
  • Provide basic first aid to animals
  • Assess animals upon intake
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and disease control
  • Educate the public regarding animal care and wellbeing

About You

It goes without saying that everyone working with RSPCA NSW loves animals, but those handling our nearest and dearest on a daily basis go that extra mile to ensure our animals receive all the love and care they deserve.

  • Previous animal handling skills
  • Must be physically fit and capable of lifting 20kgs
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Initiative and ability to prioritise
  • Resilience in dealing with emotional challenges
