Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB), is a member-based community organisation that creates social value through engineering, infrastructure and technology, which are fundamental to a life of opportunity, free from poverty. EWB aims to Engineer a Better World by creating sustainable and appropriate solutions where there is a significant gap in community access to engineering and technology. EWB connects, educates and empowers people through humanitarian engineering, with a focus on capacity development and education, both in Australia and Internationally.

As CEO, reporting to the Board, you will lead a passionate, committed and motivated team of professionals at a pivotal time of growth and change. You will be responsible for the execution and delivery of their 2020 strategy with a focus on creating the greatest impact in the field of humanitarian engineering.

Critical components of this role will be:

  • Increase EWB's impact, income and support base for their work
  • Nurture EWB's values based culture of passion, purpose and involvement
  • Build the value and profile of the EWB brand

Your key areas of responsibility will focus on, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Provide strong leadership, manage, develop and motivate a passionate group of committed employees and volunteers towards a shared vision
  • Build, communicate, deliver and review strategy
  • Provide thought leadership, influence, innovate, advocate, and challenge the status quo to drive successful outcomes
  • Champion EWB's work, grow the brand, develop & manage key stakeholder relationships
  • Ensure sustainable and transparent financial, governance & risk management
  • Generate income to support the EWB's resilience, agility and capacity to increase its impact

Essential criteria

  • You have an interest in or a passion for engineering, design and/or technology in a humanitarian context
  • Demonstrable business administrative and financial management experience, and the ability to effectively lead and manage people
  • Strong strategic thinking ability, planning and delivery thereof

Desirable criteria

  • Leadership experience, ideally gained from working with either an international development, community development or social enterprise
  • Any overseas development and/or local community development experience where you have been critical in delivering sustained and systematic social change would be highly regarded
  • Sound judgement, the ability to confidently and convincingly communicate at all levels from effectively liaising with employees and volunteer groups as well as professionally represent EWB at various forums and public speaking opportunities would be ideal

Relevant tertiary qualifications and hands-on experience in managing and leading an organisation is preferred and critical to the success of this exciting leadership role. This is a unique opportunity to make a resoundingly positive difference to the lives of so many.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Flexibility to travel internationally will be required.
