Working in collaboration with the CEO, this role will be a key part of the development of a new program, specifically designed to support youth (12-24 years) in out-of-home-care. The 'Teen Life Skills Program' is an extension of The Pyjama Foundation's evidence-based Love of Learning Program, which has supported more than 10,000 in care over the last 17 years.
Working alongside the CEO and the wider team, responsibilities include:
- The development, implementation, and delivery of the Teen Life Skills Program. With a key focus of supporting young people in care in the following areas:
- Life Skills – Goal Setting and planning towards the future
- Vocational Skills and becoming work ready
- Building Self Esteem
- Health and Wellbeing
- Develop and facilitate workshops and initiatives that align with the outcomes of Teen Life Skills Program.
- Utilise approaches that maximise the engagement, participation and outcomes of young people and volunteers within the program.
- Develop and maintain key partnerships and relationships that align with the program outcomes for young people.
- In collaboration with other staff, ensure there are sufficient volunteers recruited to the program to meet overall program objectives
- Facilitate relationships in order to obtain referrals for young people to be engaged in the program.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop any gaps identified in the program and reflect on outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement.
- Work with the wider team to ensure rigorous data capture and reporting that contribute that build on the Foundation’s research structures and ensure continuous improvement.
- Contributing to and ensuring effective risk management protocols and procedures are in place to comply with legal and governance requirements.
The role will also support the wider responsibilities of the Love of Learning Program team, which include:
- All general office duties including answering the telephone – being the first point of contact for the Foundation and database entry as per established processes.
- Participating in the training of new volunteer Pyjama Angels.
- Keeping in contact with Pyjama Angels by email and telephone as directed and as per Love of Learning Program best practice.
- Providing coaching and support to Pyjama Angels through the offering of resourcing and other ideas that assist them with their role.
- Ensuring a focus on continuous improvement by identifying gaps and areas for improvement within the organisation and communicating these with the wider team.
- Responsible for health and safety procedures, hazard reporting and safe working practices.
- Attend whole team meetings where possible and schedule in time to review any recordings if unavailable at the time of the scheduled meeting.
- Maintenance and execution of self-assigned and allocated Salesforce Tasks, ensuring the systems data integrity.
- Other duties as delegated to you by your manager/supervisor, provided that those new job requirements are safe, efficient, relevant, legal and within your abilities.
Key Skills and Experience
- Experience working within the not-for-profit sector, including but not limited to social work, justice, human services or similar preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Computer proficiency and ability to work with several operating systems.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with an ability to liaise with a broad range of people.
- Ability to undertake public speaking and facilitation.
- Demonstrated experience supporting in the management of high-quality programs and activities.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing volunteers including recruitment and retention strategies.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
- Adaptability and flexibility to changing work environments and requirements.
