We have a full-time opportunity for an experienced and passionate Hospitality Teacher/ Trainer to join Port School’s team in Term 2. We would ideally like someone who can offer:
As an innovative hospitality/ cooking teacher/ trainer you will strive to create a learning environment which engages and extends our students, enabling all students to flourish through those real life experiences.
This full-time fixed term position starts in term 2, 2023 and has the potential to turn into a permanent role for the right candidate
To be successful you will be able to build rapport and engage small classes of students (max 12) and demonstrate good planning through your learning environment and options. Our state of the art facilities had a $750k makeover 2 years ago and are equipped like a commercial kitchen. There is scope for you to bring your own style, skills and expertise into this learning area, have fun with food and make a difference.
This is far removed from a mainstream school opportunity and very much about vocational training, student engagement and individual learning outcomes. We would like all our students to have a solid foundation in home cooking, cooking on a budget, as well as learning safe and effective personal independent living skills and cooking techniques. Students are encouraged to complete a vocational certificate II in hospitality as well as first aid, food safety handling, RSA (if 18 or over) and barista competency units. All of which make them very employable in a café, fast food or restaurant environment outside of school.
TRBWA registered teachers, as well as experienced trainers with Certificate IV TAE and qualifications in either hospitality, cooking, past chef experience, are all highly desirable and will be considered.
You will also have a demonstrated commitment to the safety and well being of students and must be prepared to follow the schools staff code of conduct and work within Keeping Safe Curriculum guidelines.
We will provide you with:
Port in an independent school that aims to engage at risk students in Years 8 – 12 who, for a variety of reasons and situational circumstances, have not been able to achieve success in mainstream school settings. The School offers students small class sizes, hands-on vocational styled learning, personalised and flexible learning groups, community projects, individualised pastoral care and social support through a variety of networks and external service providers.
The School has a strong focus on the development of functional literacy and numeracy skills and offers Maths, English, Health, Visual Art, Workshop, Cooking and Physical Education/Team Sport as part of their curriculum.
Port Registered Training Organisation delivers Certificate II and III in General Education for Adults, along with a wide range of nationally recognised vocational qualifications. Port is committed to supporting students towards successful futures, and offers a range of transition pathways to help achieve this including workplace learning and school-based traineeships.
