You will be key to leading and/or supporting fiscal sustainability and value for money for the taxpayers of NSW and promoting sound financial management across the sector.

The Director - First Nations Expenditure and Outcomes will lead and advise on strategies, reforms and frameworks to support Treasury in its stewardship role of the public sector performance and financial management – with the aim of improving outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Sitting within the Policy & Budget group, this role will report to the Executive Director, Strategic Policy, Education and Customer Service. This role will have a major focus on leading the Indigenous Expenditure Report and will involve a high level of collaboration across government, within Treasury, and with Aboriginal organisations.

Achieve success as the Director, First Nations Expenditure and Outcomes

You will be successful in this role if you are a highly strategic leader with an excellent knowledge and understanding in at least one of the following areas: public sector financial management; public policy; or data and evaluation. You will be able to inspire and lead a high-performing team within a fast-paced environment to develop, review and interpret high quality evaluation advice and analysis to NSW government agencies. You will embody the NSW Treasury’s purpose to help shape a thriving, resilient and sustainable NSW through public service excellence.

Key Selection Criteria

  • High level of cultural competency and understanding of Aboriginal culture.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of public sector financial management.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with an ability to effectively negotiate, influence and communicate.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated relevant, equivalent professional experience.
  • Highly developed strategic leadership capabilities with a proven ability to lead teams in a high pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering upon organisational goals and influencing policy outcomes.
