The Role

You will be responsible for maintaining the standard of excellence for accurate content in the magazine and across all platforms consistent with the brand’s profile, voice and style requirements. You will be responsible for the management of the production process from planning through to design to print and distribution.

You will have impeccable writing and subediting skills – ensuring copy is clear, concise and factually correct. You will be comfortable writing and subbing copy for multiple channels, from print through to website copy, email marketing and social media.

  • Working with the editorial team to come up with content and commissioning
  • Management of submissions and subediting
  • Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability for print and digital
  • Subediting of magazine articles in the lead up to the issue’s release
  • Subediting online content throughout the year
  • Potential creation of content across all media
  • Creating copy for marketing purposes
  • Managing and communicating with contributors ensuring deadlines are met
  • Help express the Pip message across all channels in a dynamic and clear way
  • Fact-checking, subediting copy and ensuring content adheres to house style and is appropriate for the channel (print, digital, social
  • Writing headings, intros and captions that are consistently appropriate and creative
  • Working closely with the editor to help sculpt articles to fit the Pip style
  • Work on developing the style guide
  • Meeting deadlines and managing the production process
  • Checking proofs and inputting changes as necessary.

Location

We are based in Pambula NSW. We will consider the right candidate to work remotely but would need to be able to attend face to face meeting several times a year either in Melbourne or Pambula.

Hours

Hours are flexible but will be approximately 15- 20 hours a week.

Essential Skills

To be considered for this opportunity you will have:

  • Strong sub editing skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • An eagle eye for style, accuracy, consistency and quality
  • A passion for sustainable living and permaculture
  • Good organisational skills and be able to manage projects to meet deadlines
  • Ability to self-motivate and work collaboratively with others
  • Will have experience writing inspiring and engaging headings and intros
  • Can spot a typo, grammatical error instantly
  • Be flexible and able to work well and maintain quality under pressure

Your credentials:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an editor
  • Preferably have practical experience and knowledge of permaculture and sustainable living
  • Excellent subediting and English language skills
  • Experience working across print, digital and social channels is desirable
  • Ability to work with 100 per cent accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as independently

Bonus Skills:

These skills aren’t necessary but would be a bonus to have:

  • Experience with other streams of content production eg editing of video/ audio and images.
  • An understanding of SEO principles and how they can be applied to content in a multi-platform environment

This will start as a contract job with the view to move to a part time position.
