Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to lead and support the organisation’s Key Strategic Initiative of ‘building a compelling employee value proposition’, outlined in PA’s 2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan.

The person in this role is committed to building a psychologically safe workplace, that is aligned to the organisation’s mission and values, where staff are engaged, supported and fulfilled.

This generalist role is responsible for the support and management of the employee lifecycle, WHS and compliance, and staff engagement activities.

Philanthropy Australia is a team of 30 passionate team members, who believe deeply in the organisation’s mission. As the sole HR professional in the organisation, this role will have the unique opportunity to influence and lead the People & Culture strategy. This role offers autonomy and the chance to make a substantial impact on the organisation's culture and success.

This role would be well suited to a HR generalist looking to take the next step into an influential and hands on role, with a focus on employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Team Engagement & Culture

  • Develop and implement the People & Culture annual plan.
  • Support the development and planning of in-person all staff team workshops/conferences (held 1-2 times a year).
  • Administer 2 x staff engagement surveys per year, with results informing the priority projects for this role.
  • Oversee organisation-wide roll out of learning and development activities (lunch and learns, digital self-guided compulsory training).
  • Lead the staff RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) group, ensuring activities are complete and aligned to RAP outcomes.
  • Implement staff engagement projects as required.

People & Culture Administration

  • Coordinate the review and audit of HR policies, according to the required review calendar or as legislation changes.
  • Lead the recruitment process, including preparing job descriptions, advertising roles, corresponding with applicants, reference checks and other support as required.
  • Onboard new team members, including adding them to PA’s HRIS (Employment Hero), distributing contracts and setting up onboarding activities (meetings, induction guide, IT set up).
  • Ensure all employee records are up to date in HRIS (Employment Hero), including changes to employee’s hours and pay.
  • Keep up to date with Fair Work, NES, Modern award structures, and interpret changes and implications for the organisation.
  • Conduct remuneration reviews, based on salary surveys and market analysis, that align to the relevant Award.
  • Maintain, update and improve Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and practices to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and manage compensation claims.
  • Administer the creation of Review Periods through Employment Hero (probation and org-wide review).
  • Offboard exiting employees (e.g. IT, exit interview, farewells).
  • Support the ED, Business Services with pay runs.
  • Create reports for Board.

Leadership

  • Provide HR related advice to employees, particularly line managers and senior leaders, as required.
  • Provide expert and informed analysis and strategic advice to leadership on operational and people related issues.
  • Have a transparent, empowering, and action-oriented approach to people management and leadership.
  • Lead by example, living the values and behaviours of the organisation in day-to-day work.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or Certificate IV in Human Resource Management or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role supporting people and culture work, including recruitment, onboarding, cultural and engagement activities, legislation compliance and WHS.
  • Experience interpreting Awards and reviewing for compliance.
  • Have supported the implementation of a People & Culture Strategy / Annual Plan and have a good understanding of change management principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, and able to build high trust and rapport across all areas of an organisation.
  • Experience in being part of RAP implementation.
  • Ability to promote a culture of feedback, effectively giving and receiving feedback and coaching others to do the same.
  • Proven track record in implementing and managing HR initiatives, streamlining processes, and ensuring service excellence in HR practices.

Desirable

  • Administrator experience with Employment Hero .
  • Experience working within membership organisations.
  • Experience in working within the philanthropic and/or for-purpose sector.
