This local support is a key recommendation of the recent Royal Commission into Victoria’s mental health system and promises to make our community a better place to live.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Local

Wellways, Mentis Assist and Peninsula Health are working together to provide mental health and wellbeing supports in Frankston to ensure everyone can access treatment and care closer to home.

The new Frankston Mental Health Local will provide welcoming and inclusive support for people aged 26 years and over who are experiencing mental health challenges, including people with co-occurring alcohol and drug addiction treatment and care needs.
We are working with the local community and people who have a personal experience of mental health issues and recovery to build these services so they are the best they can be. Our services will be led by lived experience and coproduced with the local community so they are the best they can be.

About the Role

The position aims to enhance the quality of care for people presenting with MH and AOD issues by providing direct clinical care in addition to the provision of timely advice and secondary consultation.

In addition to this, the MH/AOD NP’s primary roles will include:

  • Building staff capacity to provide evidence based or informed clinical treatment (including counselling, psychotherapeutic and structured psychological therapies) and mental health and AOD medication prescribing, monitoring and review, integrated with AOD treatment and care (if required) and wellbeing supports to improve the consumer’s recovery.
  • Supervising, mentoring and educating Frankston Local staff in the assessment, treatment and support for people with co-occurring mental illness and substance use or addiction.
  • Supporting referral pathways to and from AOD and Mental Health service providers including Peninsula Health, and other relevant services

About You

  • Registered Nurse Division One with current registration with Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Masters of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) with relevant unrestricted AHPRA notation as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current Prescriber Number.

Requirements

We anticipate you will have:

  • Extensive mental health and AOD experience in community settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering high quality outcomes for consumers.
  • Ability to work as and effectively guide where required, multidisciplinary team.
  • Competently use computer applications.
  • Prepares written documentation using clear, concise and grammatically correct language.
  • Communicates effectively with and relates to Consumers from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
