We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Market Manager to lead our OzHarvest Market! This individual is highly organised, proactive and empathetic and will be able to manage an environment that changes everyday. You will lead an incredible team of dedicated Volunteers and serve some of our communities most vulnerable people.

The OzHarvest Market is Australia’s first ever rescued food supermarket, stocked with produce that has either been donated or would otherwise go to waste, but is perfectly edible. Based on a ‘take what you need, give if you can’ philosophy, our purpose is to make rescued food available to everyone, especially those who need it most.

The OzHarvest Market is a pop up marketplace, which is part of The Addison Project, TOGA and Qualitas’ youth shelter housing project at The Addison Hotel on Anzac Parade in Kensington, Sydney. It opened on 19 April 2017 and will remain open for as long as the site is available.

Key Duties and responsibilities

• Running the day to day operations of the OzHarvest Market store in Kensington
• Opening the store, planning the management of volunteer teams, having a clear understanding of the clientele and their needs
• Stock management – ensure appropriate and adequate stock levels, maintain efficiency in all areas of stock management
• Working in liaison with the Sydney Logistics Team to identify problems in areas of supply and demand and initiate strategies for improvement
• Ensure the application of all regulations and policies relating to safety, security and fire precautions applicable within the market
• Management and rostering of adequate numbers of staff and volunteers
• Creating regular communications and updates to staff and volunteers including daily briefing and debriefing sessions

This role is for you if you have…

• The resilience and the ability to handle challenging situations
• A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
• 2+ years’ experience in a Hostel, Supermarket or Retail environment or working with vulnerable people
• 2+ years’ leadership and / or Store management experience
