The Opportunity

This position will provide leadership to the Community Development team with an emphasis on strategy development, service delivery, human resource management and productivity. Coordinate, implement and review Community Development policies and plans that meet community needs. Working in partnership with the Councillors, community, and other levels of government to develop and build community capacity through the provision of effective, responsive and innovative community development initiatives and provide information, and access to services, networks and resources relevant to community development issues.

  • Position Remuneration: Level 6 ($98,037 base annual salary) / ($111,279 total remuneration package which is based on a permanent full-time employee and inclusive of 12% employer superannuation and 17.5% leave loading)

About You

To undertake this position, you will have comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of community policies and initiatives to achieve high level community outcomes.

You will have well-developed communication skills with proven ability in consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution to influence change and maintain relationships within, and outside the organisation.

Further the successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to undertake relevant managerial aspects including policy and planning, project management, financial management, asset management, report writing and human resource management.

The positions focus will be: 

  • Leadership of the Community Development team in line with Council’s values to further develop a high performing and positive workplace culture. 
  • Proactively participate as a member of the leadership team of the Department and contribute to the development and achievement of corporate strategies and goals. 
  • Research social and community trends and needs to provide strategic advice to Council and to inform the development, implementation and review of associated policies and plans.
  • Effectively manage human resources, including change management, recruitment (including assessing suitability of contractors), training and professional development of staff.
  • Research, identify, validate, and source external funding opportunities for delivery of Council’s Corporate Plan priority services and infrastructure.
  • High level engagement with Councillors, community leaders and not for profit organisations to identify, prioritise and manage various community development initiatives across the Shire.
  • Build, and participate, in regional, inter-governmental, cross Council and community planning networks and, where appropriate, promote key community development projects and programs.
  • Assist the Noosa community’s recovery from a disaster event. Importantly this role has responsibility for Human Social Welfare.
