NUAA is a peer-based organisation for people who use drugs in NSW. We are not-for-profit, community-based and peer run, founded in 1989. Our aim is to advance the rights, health and dignity of people who use drugs illicitly across NSW. About the program: DanceWize NSW

DanceWize NSW is funded by and works closely with the NSW Ministry of Health, along with event promoters and allied stakeholders to promote safety and harm reduction at events. We also deliver resources, education and training in person, and online, on drug issues and harm reduction, and use our digital platforms to engage, support and educate our community.

DanceWize NSW delivers specific harm reduction services at events and music festivals across NSW utilising Key Peer Educators (KPEs), across 3 key service platforms: Peer Support in a dedicated Care Space (linked to an integrated referral model of care with on-site medical teams), Peer Education and Roving personnel.

The program is led and coordinated by paid staff, with casual staff supporting the additional work during busy festival seasons. The paid roles oversee a volunteer pool of around 400 KPEs and 60 highly experienced and valued volunteer Team Leaders.

About the role:

  • Service delivery oversight at festivals/events including rostering, liaising with on-site stakeholders, team supervision and support, pre-briefing, event preparation, de-briefing, post-briefing, site/ event extraction and on-site coordination.
  • Under the general direction of the Program Lead contribute to the ongoing development of work methods to support the delivery of DW NSW service through the management of existing projects and program planning, including recruitment, training, volunteer engagement, stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders; examples include promoters, festival/event management, health and police representatives and security, to deliver harm reduction health services including peer education, care and support.
  • Monitor, evaluate, collaborate and report on program deliverables and outputs to funders and other key stakeholders as required/instructed.
  • Coordinate teams of staff and volunteers to achieve outstanding outcomes.
  • Contribute towards reducing the incidents and impact of drug-related harms at music festivals in New South Wales
  • Identify current and emergent key issues in the festival/event scene through consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders, including community health organisations, government officials, NGOs/ NFPs, researchers, emergency service providers and event promoters/management.
  • Identify current and emergent key issues through interactions and consultations with community members (people who attend music festivals).
  • Coordinate and collaborate to achieve ongoing recruitment and engagement of a large, diverse and growing team of DW NSW KPEs (Key Peer Educators or volunteers) to ensure program KPIs are achieved.
  • Design and deliver peer specific and harm reduction training to our KPEs, and at times to wider community members and stakeholders, including sourcing and engaging appropriate external trainers, and facilitate the delivery of bespoke in-house workshops.
  • Assist with the management of digital platforms of our program/s (examples include website/s, Instagram, Facebook) and our digital “PeerLine” service including the timely response to community members enquiries with support, information and resources around drugs and related issues (responding to requests).
  • Contribute to timely monitoring, evaluation and reporting on program outputs.
  • Work flexibly, collaboratively and strategically within the DanceWize NSW program/ team, and within the wider NUAA organisation.
  • Other tasks as directed.

About you (Selection Criteria):

  1. You have a proven track record of program coordination or project management.
  2. You have an understanding of drug related harm reduction and the issues facing people who use drugs (including alcohol).
  3. You identify as a peer to the community of people who use drugs at music festivals and have a strong understanding of the music festival scene; both commercial and underground.
  4. You can travel within NSW and have a current unrestricted NSW drivers license.
  5. The ability to work flexibly e.g., to work nights and weekends (within SCHCADS Award definitions).
  6. You have/can obtain Working with Children's Check (WWCC) and First Aid Course certification.
  7. You have exceptional ability to focus on multiple and competing priorities at once.
  8. You have experience in crisis management with strong conflict resolution skills.
  9. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a variety of stakeholders to develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships.
  10. High competency in written and verbal communication skills including the ability to maintain complex and timely communication in rapidly changing environments.

Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering effective training for staff, volunteers and/ or community members, and/ or experience in group facilitation.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in a related field or demonstrated equivalent experience for more than two years.
  • Experience in the music festival industry.
  • Experience working in harm reduction within Australia and/ or internationally.
  • Understanding of and experience in, peer work.
  • Experience in online communication and campaigns, especially via social media.
