The Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission (Legal Aid NT) is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990. Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.
This exciting role will work to support vulnerable people accessing our services in the Alice Springs Court.
As a member of Social Support team and under the supervision of the Social Support Practice Lead, you will work alongside staff in the Alice Springs office to ensure that barriers are removed, clients are supported, and our services are culturally sound.
We are seeking a Community Support Officer (CSO) with an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the challenges affecting this client group, their families and communities living in the Alice Springs region. The successful applicant will have experience working in the region and will be committed to identifying and breaking down barriers that exist for vulnerable people accessing our service.
You will be an important member of a small team, which relies on relationships and team work to succeed. Essential qualities include relational skills, as well as the ability to effectively connect with vulnerable individuals, particularly those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (NT).
Legal Aid NT offer attractive employment benefits such as 6 weeks annual leave and salary packaging options. Whilst the work is challenging, you will be rewarded with a culture that is focused on meeting the legal needs of vulnerable people in the Northern Territory and supporting its staff.
As part of Legal Aid NT’s Employee Wellbeing Strategy, we provide flexible working arrangements which includes part time employment that ensure you can meet other family / community / personal needs.
A duty statement, including selection criteria can be obtained from legalaid.nt.gov.au, or in the attachment below.
