A rare and exciting opportunity to join our high-performing Research and Policy Team at the James Martin Institute for Public Policy (JMI). We are expanding our capacity to provide rapid, research-informed advice to meet the growing needs of our government partners. We are looking for a full-time Policy Analyst who will flourish by engaging across a wide range of policy areas; supporting government leaders with timely, innovative, expert-informed, evidence-based responses to their most pressing policy challenges. Two years of professional experience in a policy role is preferred. Attractive salary with flexible terms and conditions.
The James Martin Institute for Public Policy (JMI) works to transform public policy, for the good of the people, planet and future of New South Wales and beyond. Launched in 2021 as a formal partner of the NSW Government, JMI is a unique joint-venture between government and universities. An independent, non-partisan policy institute with charitable status, we forge collaborative networks and drive innovative solutions to complex challenges. Our mission is to ensure that policy development is informed by experts. We do this by supporting policymakers to harness a wide range of expert advice, including from across our network of university partners. We work closely with the NSW Government under our partnership model to help address its most pressing priorities and challenges. We have a high-performing, positive, and supportive organisational culture.
We are looking for a high-performing Policy Analyst with a passion for solving complex public policy challenges – including policy innovation - that improves people’s lives. You will join JMI’s highly-respected Research and Policy team, and will be responsible for delivering high-quality policy research, synthesis and analysis, primarily through our ‘Rapid Response’ capability. Projects typically take place over 2-4 weeks and are multidisciplinary, cutting across social, economic, environmental, technological and health policy. You will have the opportunity to apply your skills to real world public policy challenges facing government, providing support through timely, expert-informed briefings and analytical workshops. You will have access to a wide array of experts from across our leading university partners, as well as broader experts, and the chance to work across a large spectrum of public policy issues affecting our economy and society. Beyond your primary focus on growing and delivering our rapid response capability, you may also have the opportunity to support other JMI workstreams, including working on longer collaborative policy projects. This is an exciting, wide-ranging role in a growing organisation and so requires someone who is highly adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable to grow as the Institute matures.
The Institute is looking for a motivated, adaptable Policy Analyst with excellent critical thinking, analytical, organisation, communication, and creative thinking skills. You will be able to demonstrate experience in structured thinking and analytical problem-solving and working well as part of a team. You will have strong academic credentials and preferably 2 years’ experience of experience in a policy role. If you are looking to build your experience at the forefront of policy innovation, across some of Australia’s most pressing challenges, we would love to hear from you.
