Youth Law Australia is looking for an Administrative Officer/EA. This is an opportunity to join the most important legal practice in Australia and to support a team dedicated to helping children and young people to exercise their rights and to solve their legal problems.
Youth Law Australia (YLA)
YLA is the national children’s and youth Community Legal Centre (CLC). We provide high quality, free and confidential legal assistance to children, young people, and their families and advocates nationally in all areas of the law. YLA is a fast-paced, high-volume legal practice, providing over 5000 legal services to clients each year.
YLA aims to enhance children and young people’s access to and engagement with their legal and human rights; assistance to exercise these rights; and to remedies when these rights are violated.
YLA’s objective is to fulfil these aims by providing appropriate and targeted legal information, advice, education, representation, and advocacy.

- Live webchat access for young Australians at risk of or experiencing a broad range of harms or maltreatment.
About the role
The Administrative Officer/EA will work closely with YLA’s Legal Operations Manager, Principal Solicitors and Director to assist the centre with project management, human resources, finance, governance, communications, and centre administration.
The Administrative Officer/EA will report to the Legal Operations Manager.
About you
The Administrative Officer/EA should have a high level of technological proficiency and be comfortable working across and learning to use multiple digital platforms, including soft phone, email and online case management systems.

Specific responsibilities
- Answer YLA’s administrative enquiries and manage YLA’s admin inbox and phone line.
- Manage YLA’s admin calendar, including organising staff, Board, and committee meetings.
- Obtain quotes, book travel arrangements, purchase goods (with approval from the Legal Operations Manager/Director) and maintain office equipment.
- Prepare agendas, minutes, presentations, and other documents as required.
- Assist with Centre policy development.
- Assist the Legal Operations Manager and Director to ensure the Centre meets all accountability, legal compliance and reporting requirements to the Board, funding bodies and Centre partners.
- Assist the Legal Operations Manager and Director to implement YLA’s funding and fundraising strategies.
- Assist the Legal Operations Manager, Director, and Communications Officer to prepare Annual Reports and business plans.
- Assist the Legal Operations Manager and Principal Solicitors to recruit and manage volunteers.
- Provide executive assistance support to YLA’s Executive team.
- Other administrative, executive assistance and legal support tasks as required.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant qualifications with experience providing administrative/executive support or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in an environment of competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Moderate to high level of technological proficiency and confidence working across and learning to use multiple digital platforms, including softphone, email and online case management systems or CRMs. Advanced competency in the use of Microsoft Office is desirable.
- Understanding of contemporary issues for children and young people.
Indicative base salary - $65, 661.44 - $70, 676.32 pa.
The salary will be commensurate with the rates of pay of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 and is negotiable. The position is classified at Level 2 - Level 3 of the Award depending on the experience of the candidate. FBT salary packaging is also available on request.
