VCGS is a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Murdoch Children's Research Institute www.mcri.edu.au and provides a wholly integrated genetic testing, diagnostic and counselling service for health professionals, patients and their families across Victoria, Australia and globally. The Opportunity at VCGS:

The purpose of the position is to meet the requirements of Laboratory Services and the goals of the VCGS in terms of (but not restricted to) accuracy, timeliness and other customer service goals as determined by VCGS. They come under the supervision of the Customer Care Group – Specimen Reception & Logistics Team Leaders. In the specimen reception area duties will include triaging and rapid registering of specimens arriving at VCGS, ensuring the labelling on samples and request forms meets internal and external quality standards; and to liaise with external clients if these requirements are not met. On a rotational basis the Customer Care Operator will be in the Logistics area. Duties in this area will include kit preparation, fulfilling orders, creating shipping documents, sending and tracking via external courier companies and stocktaking. This role will require daily use of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responding to telephone enquiries and/or direct calls as required
  • Accepting, processing, sorting and distributing all samples as they arrive at the laboratory
  • Troubleshooting issues ranging in complexity in a prompt and responsible manner
  • Ensuring minimum sample labelling requirements and request forms are met
  • Preparing different types of sample kits
  • Fulfilling orders from clients for stock and recording these in excel spreadsheets

About You:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent
  • Experience in a NATA accredited high through-put pathology specimen reception preferred but not essential
  • Demonstrable experience in troubleshooting
  • Reasonable computer skills including familiarity with standard word processing programs, especially excel
