The focus of the role:

We are looking for a consultant to support and help us grow our social planning capacity and practice area. This position will be based in Melbourne but will contribute to projects across Australia.

Our practice seeks to help decision makers and agencies to:

  • Understand the social dimensions of technical issues (in the sustainability, liveability and resilience space) and their solutions
  • Understand and apply research / new thinking around the social, environment and economic dimensions of urban and regional life
  • Help guide investment decisions in urban areas
  • Work with clients on decision processes to assist clients make the best decisions
  • Take stakeholders and the community along on the journey of change
  • Clearly communicate the imperative to act and what action to take

What we are looking for

Someone with:

  • Skills and experience in social planning and social science as it relates to liveability and resilience for urban and/or regional areas.
  • Ability to apply social research including: qualitative and quantitative data analysis, program evaluation, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, social impact assessment, policy analysis, strategy and program development, stakeholder engagement and communications.
  • Ability to collaborate and innovate to bring excellence in social science / planning to the scientists and engineers across the Alluvium Group and our partners on challenging and meaningful projects that directly affect the future of our urban and rural environments.
  • Skills and experience in growing the business and our city shaping offer
  • Skills and experience in building Mosaic Insight’s profile as leaders in the application of social science in developing healthy and sustainable urban and rural landscapes.
  • A high level of skill in writing and preparation of proposals, project management, project direction, and mentoring of others ​

Essential skills you need for the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the social sciences or planning
  • An understanding of or experience in strategic management of parks, environment, water and natural resource management, (particularly desirable is experience from a State or local government perspective)
  • A strong passion to improve how cities and rural landscapes work for communities and the environment
  • 10 years of professional experience
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Confident communication skills and ability to present information in a concise and engaging manner
  • Demonstrated initiative and drive
  • Willing to travel interstate and to regional areas for short periods (when permitted)
  • Able to legally work in Australia (we will not consider applicants who require visa sponsorship)

Other desirable skills and experience:

  • Prior experience in professional services consulting
  • A passion for data driven approaches to planning
  • Established networks within our sector
  • Links and experience with research in this sector
