About the business & role

The Coastal Planner sits within Council’s Strategy team which is responsible for urban design, coastal planning and heritage. The Coastal Planner is responsible providing expert professional advice and guidance to Council and the community in relation to coastal planning and coastal management. The position also promotes an understanding of coastal processes and the impact of climate change on coastal areas and to develop policy options to assist in the adaption of impacts of climate change on the coast and its hinterland.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

You will:

  • Develop coastal strategies and Coastal Management Plans.
  • Provision of advice, both internally and externally, both in writing and verbally, on strategic and day to day coastal planning and coastal management issues consistent with facts, established strategies, policies and precedents.
  • Program and conduct public consultation processes, and undertake consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and groups likely to be affected by Council coastal planning and coastal management policy proposals.
  • Implementation of assigned projects to agreed standards of quality, comprehensiveness, budget and timing.
  • Work across the Strategy team and provide support to non-coastal planning projects where required.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as environmental, natural resource management, engineering or urban planning which may include practical experience in the operational management and supervision of significant coastal assets.
  • At least five years post qualification professional experience in strategic planning, policy development and project management, conducting research or direct management of significant coastal assets.
  • Post-graduate or other additional training in coastal planning, natural resource management or related fields will be highly regarded.
  • You will need to provide evidence of your right to work in Australia, certified copies of your qualifications, and a current Driver Licence. 
  • You must also be willing to undertake a National Police Record Check, and hold an Employee Working with Children Check (mandatory).
