Expressions of interest for the following categories of membership are open:

- Community members – people who bring a broader community or consumer perspective and who have no paid affiliation with Monash University
Appointments are for an initial period of twelve months with the possibility for renewal.

Members are expected to attend 8 meetings throughout the year and contribute to follow-up review processes as well as attend training.
About You
In addition to the above requirements, you must possess effective interpersonal skills, competent computer skills and be able to read large documents online within the required timeframe.
About the Role
- Each member is responsible for making themselves familiar with the National Statement and other relevant guidelines.
- Each member is responsible for deciding whether, in their judgement, a research proposal meets the requirements of the National Statement and is ethically acceptable.
- Each member is assigned to a sub-committee of MUHREC and needs to prepare for and attend at least 70% of the scheduled meetings of that sub-committee. Applications are reviewed online and meetings are conducted using the online Ethics Review Manager system. In the event that a member cannot attend the scheduled meeting they are required to provide their opinions about each application prior to the meeting.
- Each member must attend continuing education or training programs, such as the MUHREC training, at least every three years.
- Members who have been on the committee for 6 - 12 months are deemed to be experienced and may be invited to read lower risk applications.
- Members given access to confidential material or information in order to assess an application’s ethical merits are bound to maintain that confidentiality.
- Members must disclose any interests that may constitute an actual or potential conflict of interest, including any financial or other interest or affiliation that bears on any research coming before the review body.
Diversity is one of our greatest strengths at Monash. We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities, and age groups.
When our institutions establish MUHRECs they endeavour to ensure that the HREC membership at each meeting has diversity, including gender diversity, as far as is practicable.
