About our Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Ward E Casey Hospital

Ward E is a part of Monash Health Mental Health Services, and is a 30 bed adult mental health inpatient unit.

We offer hospital admissions to consumers who are cared for on a low dependency unit and offering an award winning sensory garden, Safe wards implemented, comprehensive discharge planning and community engagement where possible, before discharge. Consumers remain in the unit until they have recovered to the point where they can be treated effectively and safety in the community. Our work is supported by a specialised multidisciplinary team, comprehensive community mental health services (including Mental Health Hospital in the Home) and welfare support services which collaboratively, provide a range of therapeutic interventions and programs available to consumers and their families to learn more about the impact of the illness, explore ways to better manage the illness, improve coping strategies and move towards recovery.

About the Role

The Occupational Therapist is an entry level position designed to provide a supported introduction to Occupational Therapy within the Adult Mental Health service. The position provides occupational therapy services, maintains an active case-load, and delivers a front-line occupational therapy service response to clients at Ward E.

This is a Full Time Ongoing position.

About You

  • Knowledge of current Mental Health legislation and other relevant legislation and policies and their impact on practice.
  • A sound theoretical knowledge of current Occupational Therapy practices in psychiatry and knowledge of delivery of a quality Occupational Therapy service to consumers within a psychiatric setting.
  • Experience of working individually and in groups with clients who have psychiatric disabilities.
  • Demonstrated competent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to function constructively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, establishing effective relationships with staff, consumers and carers.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, performance review and supervision.
  • A willingness to participate in the development, implementation and review of Quality Activities
